MLA Anvar is looking for new political paths and thinking about alternatives after the CPM split

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: By sending feelers to parties like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), meeting Congress leaders and exploring options to float his own political platform, estranged CPM independent MLA PV Anvar has kept all political options open.

Now that the CPM has made it categorically clear that the party has severed all ties with him, the Nilambur legislature has explored all available alternatives.

It is learned from highly placed sources that Anvar tried to contact former Union minister and DMK leader A Raja while the latter was in New Delhi. However, the meeting did not take place.

Meanwhile, Anvar’s open attack on the CPM has won him new friends from an unexpected source. Political Islam platforms such as the Jamaat-e-Islami and other strong proponents of identity politics believe that Anvar’s statements validate their criticism of the CPM.

Political leaders from Malabar pointed out that Anvar has been thinking about the possibility of bringing together Muslim minorities, CPM dissidents, secular-minded individuals and organizations to fight the BJP-RSS. Those close to Anvar also believe that the leader plans to launch such a broad political platform.

“Anvar’s statements in the last two press conferences are proof of his next political line,” a veteran Muslim League leader told TNIE. “He is projecting himself as the champion of the minorities by keeping his distance from the League and the CPM. The forces behind him also know that if legal action is taken, he can save face in the name of political witch hunt,” he said.
