Workshop on human trafficking at Police Lines

Dehradun, September 26: A workshop on awareness and capacity building in the field of combating human trafficking was held at the police lines here today. The workshop was jointly organized by National Commission for Women and Uttarakhand Police. The aim of this workshop was to raise awareness among all stakeholders about organized crime such as human trafficking and to increase capacity building among stakeholders for the prevention of such serious crimes.

Upon arrival at the venue, guests were welcomed by DIO, Crime and Law & Order, P. Renuka Devi.

Chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women Kusum Kandwal emphasized that women’s safety is a very important issue. She called on the participants to go to the villages and organize workshops to make everyone aware of this heinous crime. Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Administration, Amit Sinha emphasized that for effective prevention of human trafficking, immediate action should be taken on receiving information about missing persons, especially women and children, and every effort should be made to search for the missing. He also called on police officials to make every effort to search for the missing persons using the latest technology.

Member Secretary of National Commission for Women Meenakshi Negi thanked the Uttarakhand Police for their cooperation in organizing this workshop and said that to prevent human trafficking, it is necessary to know its root cause. There can be different reasons for human trafficking in each state and region. Human trafficking mainly takes place for reasons such as sexual exploitation, domestic slavery, human organ transplantation, forced labor, surrogacy, etc. To prevent this crime, all departments must work together. Meenakshi Negi also spoke at length about gender sensitization.

Kamal Pant, ex-DG, SDRF, Civil Defense and Fire Services, Karnataka, also addressed the gathering on the topic of human trafficking. MSS Seva Organization Program Officer Mohammad Samoon spoke about the role of NGOs in reducing cross-border human trafficking and in particular in the rescue and rehabilitation of trafficked women and children.

IG, Crime and Law & Order, Nilesh Anand Bharne, IG, Garhwal Range, KS Nagnyal, SSPS/SPs Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, GRP, Nodal Officer of Anti Human Trafficking Unit, ITBP, representatives of Child Welfare Committee , Women Empowerment and Child Development Department, Women Welfare Department, Labor Department, NGOs, State Railway Police and other police officials along with around 200 other participants participated in the workshop.
