Troy man charged with possession of child sex abuse material after tip from state police

An Oakland County man has been charged with serious crimes related to the possession of child pornography, authorities said. Kyle Robert Breitinger, 37, of Troy, was arraigned Thursday, with the prosecutor’s office charging him with six counts of aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material, as presented in a FOX 2 Detroit news release.

The investigation began after a critical tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children was shared with Michigan State Police, leading to the disturbing discovery. The connection between the explicit material and Breitinger was made through his phone number, with the device in question allegedly containing numerous illegal images and videos of minors. According to ClickOnDetroit, the suspect’s phone was searched after significant action was taken on the tip.

“Any allegation involving child sexual exploitation is deeply troubling,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, according to a report by MidMichiganNow. She emphasized the seriousness with which her office views these allegations and its commitment to ensuring justice for the victims. If convicted, Breitinger faces a felony charge that carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years and/or fines up to a total of $50,000.

The court set Breitinger’s bond at $50,000, and he will appear for a probable cause conference before Judge Hartig on October 8 in the 52-4 District Court.
