Reports of violence and abuse in an institution in Lviv Oblast

Kiev, September 28, 2024UNICEF is shocked by reports of violence and abuse that took place for months at an educational boarding school in Lviv Oblast. This information was released following an audit visit to the institution by the Office of the Ombudsman and the National Social Service.

Such horrific behavior against some of the most vulnerable children is completely unacceptable. Such incidents should never happen and tragically highlight why UNICEF and our many partners continue to advocate for family-centered, not institutional, care for every child.

UNICEF is encouraged by the progress and commitment of government and partners in family-centered care and we reaffirm our support to ensure the right to a safe, nurturing and loving family environment for every child. These recent violations of children’s rights highlight the urgency of prioritizing practical measures to advance the better healthcare reform agenda.
