In the hometown of Matteo Messina Denaro, the film “Iddu – The Last Godfather”, which will be released in Italian cinemas on October 10, will not be shown. There will also be no premiere with the actors and director.

The ‘Marconi’ cinema in the city of the boss and his family was always managed by former mayor Antonino Vaccarino, who was arrested and convicted of drug trafficking and died three years ago due to Covid-related complications. Now it is managed by his son Salvatore, who has stated that not only is he not interested in hosting a premiere in Castelvetrano and therefore has not requested it from the staff, but that he also has no interest in showing a film of which he says: it doesn’t interest me, it doesn’t concern me.”

When he heard the news, the mayor of Castelvetrano, Giovanni Lentini, responded that he would try to convince the managers to give everyone the chance to see the film. The film, directed by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza, shows various events in the life of the mafia boss who was captured on January 16, 2023, after almost thirty years on the run, with a particular focus on the ‘pizzini’ with which he managed his affairs. . It portrays a world that revolves recklessly around him and protects the tragic and farcical mystery of his long hiding.

In this world, risks and existential crises never yield the hoped-for results. The Roman actor Elio Germano will play the boss, but from the first trailers circulating on the Internet, an extraordinary Tony Servillo will portray the figure, described by many as “unclear”, who represented Antonino Vaccarino for many years and dates back to the time of Don. Ciccio Messina Denaro, the father of the deceased former fugitive. The real character involved is Vaccarino himself, with whom Messina Denaro maintained intensive epistolary relations through ‘pizzini’ in the early 2000s.

Catello (Tony Servillo), a politician convicted of external complicity in mafia-like associations, is offered freedom by the secret services in exchange for his help in capturing his former godson. Thus begins an exchange of letters with him, now tired of his fugitive life, hoping to induce him to accidentally reveal his hiding place in one of his pizzini. However, viewers will have to wait for the film version to find out more, but the fact remains that Vaccarino’s son will not give his city, and therefore its citizens, the opportunity to see the film. This position is seen as an attempt to defend his late father’s honor. The film tour with actors and directors will take place from October 3 to 8 and end in Palermo.

It will visit several cities in the Sicilian provinces. On Thursday, October 3, events will be held in Mazara del Vallo, Alcamo and Trapani. “I have heard that the cinema managers do not intend to show the film,” Mayor Giovanni Lentini said. “I will try to convince them to change their minds and give citizens this opportunity, that is to see this film. It is good to see it, and then everyone will be free to express their own opinion.”
