First farmers market launched in Ladmawphlang

The Mei-Ramew State Agroecology Cooperative Society launched its first farmers market in Ladmawphlang yesterday.

The event brought together farmers from different communities in the region and provided them with a platform to showcase and sell their organic, chemical-free products.

The market was a partnership between NESFAS, the cooperative association and partner villages including Ladmawphlang, Laitsohpliah, Mawstep, Pyrda, Mawbri, Laitlyndop, Nongpriang, Nongtraw, Dewlieh, Mawmihthied and Kshaid.

The market featured a wide variety of organic products including Sha Shiah Krot (carrot tea), Rosella jam, bayberry pickle, Sohiong jam and wild edibles such as Jatira, Jasim and Jamyrdoh.

Richard Ranee, a school teacher from Nongtraw Village, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating that the farmers’ market is a crucial step towards empowering rural farmers, promoting sustainable agriculture and providing a much-needed platform for them to sell their products and receive the proceeds. recognition they deserve.

The event attracted numerous tourists visiting Sohra, who were happy to discover this hidden gem and learn about the unique agricultural heritage of the region.

Sohra MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem, the chief guest at the event, expressed his delight that tourists were regularly visiting the indigenous cafe and emphasized the need for collective action to protect and promote indigenous food systems and ensure that there is balance the demand and supply chain of organic products.
