NGOs unveil activities to mark the seventh anniversary of the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia

Repubblika and #occupyjustice celebrate the seventh anniversary of the death of Daphne Caruana Galizia, a journalist who fought against corruption and organized crime.

During this year’s activities, Repubblika will launch a strategy and manifesto against corruption entitled ‘We Defend Integrity’. A new documentary entitled ‘Untangling the Mafia State’, produced by journalists Julian Delia and Michael Kaden, will also be inaugurated, Repubblika said in a statement.

The activities will culminate on Wednesday, October 16, with a silent vigil in Bidnija at the time and place of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s death, followed by an evening demonstration in Valletta, starting at Parliament and ending with a vigil on the Great Siege Square. .

Françoise Laborde, a prominent French television journalist and activist for the rights of women and minorities, and Tiberio Bentivoglio, an Italian trader who refused to collaborate with the mafia, will speak at the vigil. Bentivoglio faced threats and survived an assassination attempt, and now works against organized crime.

Repubblika President Vicki Ann Cremona said: “Justice has not yet been done for Daphne Caruana Galizia, and until it is, we have a duty to insist that it is. Even less justice has been done for our country, and that will continue. to suffer the consequences of the corruption Daphne has exposed. It is our duty as Maltese people to find together ways to take responsibility for the worst evil committed in our country, to learn from it, and to build a country for our children that wants what is becoming done. is right.”
