What is the plot of Wolfs?

George Clooney and Brad Pitt play two ‘fixers’ – people hired to solve problems that you can’t pass on to anyone else – similar to the legendary Winston Wolfe from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994).

Despite insisting on only working alone, both men are hired to move the body of ‘the Kid’, a love interest of Manhattan District Attorney Margaret.

Margaret says The Kid is “definitely not a prostitute” after he appears to have died in a freak accident in her hotel room.

The pair are forced to work together, despite having different employers, and must overcome their personal dislike of each other to get the job done.

However, nothing is as it seems when it is revealed that The Kid is still alive and has ties to the Albanian mafia.

Clooney is the first fixer to arrive on the scene to clean up the mess left by the prosecutor in Wolfs.

Although the old Hollywood great needs no introduction to most viewers, his most famous roles include Danny Ocean in the Oceans Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen trilogy (2001-07).

He has also taken on some of the most famous space roles in modern cinema, playing Dr. Chris Kelvin to star in Solaris and Matt Kowalski in Gravity.

Brad Pitt

Pitt is the second Wolf hired after Margaret to clean up, which is where the dilemma in the film comes from.

Another member of Hollywood royalty, Pitt is best known for roles as Tyler Durden in Fight Club (1999) and Jeffrey Goines in Twelve Monkeys (1995).

His more recent films include Babylon, Bullet Train and The Lost City, all released in 2022.

Austin Abrams

Austin Abrams plays the role of the Kid in Wolfs – DA Margaret’s ‘lover’ who is definitely not a prostitute.

While it initially seems like he doesn’t have much to do in the way of acting, as he spends much of the first act seemingly dead, his character certainly comes to life as the film progresses.

Fans may recognize him in TV shows including Euphoria (2019) and The Walking Dead (2015-16).

Amy Ryan

Amy Ryan stars as Manhattan District Attorney Margaret, whose mess the two Wolfs will clean up as they find themselves in an increasingly complicated scenario.

She is known for blockbuster films including Birdman (2014), Gone Baby Gone (2007) and Escape Plan (2013).

Amy has also had roles in some of the most beloved TV shows of all time, including the role of Holly Flax in The Office (2008-11) and Beadie Russell in The Wire (2003-08).

How does Wolfs end?

By the end of the film, Clooney and Pitt’s characters have survived several deadly trials and realize that they didn’t mind working together as much as they had perceived during the duration of the job.

However, in a final shocking twist, the two characters realize that they have been working for the same person all along.

Brad, who is hired by hotel owner Pam, and Clooney, who is hired by District Attorney Margaret, realize they have been set up.

Clooney’s fixer asks Pitt, “So what did (Pam) say to you to get you to work with me?” What did she say? Was she quite an influence?’

“She said I had no choice,” Clooney replies.

Pitt then adds, “You take a job, you give your word, and that word is the measure of the man.”

Recognizing the line he heard Margaret say at the beginning of the hairdresser, Clooney stops in his tracks as he’s about to leave the restaurant and a realization dawns on him.

He says: “In the car to June, who called you? It was your husband. The man who gave Pam your number. Your husband.”

“So she must have called him,” Pitt replies, prompting Clooney to ask, “But why would you call me?”

“But who called…” Pitt disappears as the penny drops. “You’re saying the DA got your number… No!”

“Yes,” Clooney confirms, while Pitt says it out loud: “We have the same guy.”

“But why does he care?” Clooney asks. “It’s just a cleaning job.”

They come to the conclusion that their “husband” doesn’t care unless he knew about the drugs.

“The kid’s dead, he can’t come, so he’s calling us,” Pitt theorizes, while Clooney puts two and two together: “One by one, but no one answers.”

“So he sent someone else,” Pitt says, as the pair learn that once the mastermind realized the child was alive, he planned for the two wolves to initiate the drug deal themselves so they would be held responsible for the disappearance of medications.

“We were being cleaned,” they say in unison, realizing that they were meant to take the cloth and be killed – and that they are about to be involved in another shooting.

The film ends with the fixers about to do battle with their would-be killers, promising that they will finally exchange names if they make it out alive.

It appeared on the platform on Friday, September 27, 2024.

Will there be a sequel to Wolfs?

Writer and director Johnathan “Jon” Watts has confirmed that a sequel is being considered.

He said: “Apple has been talking to me about a sequel since I turned in my cut in December (2023).

“That’s always been an ongoing discussion. I definitely didn’t write the film with a sequel in mind.

“But it was a lot of fun to make, so I don’t know. I guess you let the audience decide if they want to see more.”
