Man sentenced to 14 years in prison for child sexual abuse at Fort Carson

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado announced that a man has been sentenced to 168 months in prison and 12 years of supervised release after being found guilty by a federal jury on three counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 32-year-old Mitchel Crow performed several sex acts with a minor at a home on Fort Carson. Crow was a civilian living on post and was responsible for the child’s care at the time.

“There is nothing more important than protecting children in our society,” said Matt Kirsch, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Colorado. “This lengthy sentence reflects the severity of the suspect’s abuse of a minor he should have protected.”

“Child abusers prey on the most vulnerable victims. This sentence will not erase the harm done to the victim, but we hope it is a step toward healing,” said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek. “The FBI and our law enforcement partners, such as the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division, will continue to work together to put predators who harm children in prison.”

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood uses federal, state, and local resources to identify, arrest, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children and to help victims identify and rescue.
