Major revelation about child exploitation material – FBC News

The US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received 3,638 suspected reports of child sexual exploitation material from Fiji last year.

Minister of Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, announced this today during his ministerial statement in parliament.

He emphasizes the urgent need for better protective measures and international cooperation to tackle the growing problem of online child sexual abuse in the country.

Kamikamica says the national task force established this year by the coalition government has prioritized combating child pornography, now called online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

“I also urge parents, guardians and communities to be vigilant about the images and videos of our children that we share online. It is crucial to avoid uploading photos or videos of our children if they are not dressed appropriately. Once these images or videos are online, they can be exploited by perpetrators in unimaginable and damaging ways. Let’s work together to protect our children, both in the physical and digital worlds.”

Kamikamica also emphasizes the critical nature of this issue, stating that the task force is already working with the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the Fiji Police Force to provide law enforcement with the necessary training in investigating cyber tip reports.

The task force is co-chaired by Kamikamica and Minister of Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya, who are working closely with law enforcement agencies, telecommunications providers and international organizations to tackle widespread exploitation on digital platforms.
