Union Border Patrol reaffirms support for Trump during VP debate

The US Border Patrol union reaffirmed its support for former President Donald Trump during the vice presidential debate on Tuesday evening.

In a social media post, the National Border Patrol Council said U.S. border experts support Trump because he can secure it “without compromise.”

“The border experts want @realDonaldTrump to become president so the border can be secured without compromise. Only the drug cartels and the Democrats want an open border – that is what Border Czar Harris has given them and will continue to do in the future,” the union wrote on X.

The message followed comments about immigration authorities by Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. He said experts like the Border Patrol endorsed the border bill, which would have provided resources to secure the southern border.

“It was created by a conservative senator from Oklahoma – James Lankford. I know him. He is super conservative, but he is a principled man and he wants to get it done,” Governor Walz said. “Democrats and Republicans have been working on this piece of legislation. The Border Patrol said, “This is what we need here.” These are the experts.”

The National Border Patrol Council approved the bill in February, which would have freed up more than $20 billion for border security initiatives. The union said that while the bill is not perfect, it is a step in the right direction and “much better than the current status quo.” The union added that it hoped lawmakers would pass the legislation quickly.

That same day, Trump urged Republicans to vote against it, calling it a “great deal” for Democrats and a “death wish” for the Republican Party. The union blamed the problems at the border in the following weeks on President Joe Biden, who supported the legislation before it failed in the Senate.

On February 16, the union posted a photo of a dumpster fire on X with the caption: “Joe Biden’s entire plan to secure our border.”
