The union bosses of the dock workers are raking in the money

The demand was a 77% pay increase. And then the union bosses rejected a 50% pay increase. In the meantime, we find out that the union bosses are raking in the money themselves.

As I wrote yesterday, this strike has brought fourteen ports along the East Coast and the Gulf to a standstill. We’re talking about almost 50% of the goods imported into the US that are now parked offshore with nowhere to go. We are talking about an impact of almost $3 to $5 billion on our economy PER DAY.

It’s not just the pay increases. The ILA Union absolutely does NOT want any form of automation in the port.

The contract the ILA agreed to in 2018 bans fully automated equipment at the ports and requires union signature for new semi-automated equipment. “There is no point in negotiating a new agreement with USMX if one of the major companies continues to violate our current agreement for the sole purpose of eliminating ILA jobs through automation,” said ILA Chairman Harold Daggett, chief negotiator for the union. said in a statement in June.

Daggett is using the strike as leverage to make rules around automation even more restrictive, and not just in the eastern half of the US. During a demonstration on the picket line on Tuesday, he signaled plans to organize dock workers worldwide against automation. “When we finally get a contract, I will go to Portugal with every union in the maritime sector to take over these companies in the field of automation,” Daggett said through a megaphone at the Port of New York and New Jersey. And if automation reaches Chile’s ports, “we will shut them down all over the world for three weeks.”

OK, so even some form of automation that helps America’s ports function more smoothly and efficiently is off the table. They want the old-fashioned way of working. Nobody wants to learn to code. I got it.

Let’s talk about the union bosses who made these demands and, in my opinion, are currently so deaf to the realities facing many along the East Coast in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Let’s talk about Harold Daggett.

Fiery union boss Harold Daggett has long cast himself as a staunch advocate for workers, even as he lived in luxury, owned a yacht and drove a Bentley – and fought alleged ties to the mafia.

Wearing a polo shirt with a thick gold medallion around his neck, the 78-year-old Daggett, who as president of the International Longshoremen’s Association is leading the port strikes stretching from Maine to Texas, was prone to theatrical flourishes in a September interview as he prepared prepare for the strike.

Meanwhile, Daggett — who worked at the ILA for 57 years and took over as president in 2011 — collected $728,000 in compensation from the ILA last year.

He collected another $173,000 as president emeritus of a local union chapter, according to Labor Department records.

He lives in a 7,136-square-foot home valued at $1.7 million on a 10-acre lot in Sparta, New Jersey, according to Zillow and NJ Property Records.

So good old Harold rakes in almost a million dollars a year. That’s a very nice piece of change, isn’t it? As the New York Post notes, OTHER union bosses at the Teamsters and AFL-CIO make significantly less than that. As in: only $300,000 per year on average. That’s a HUGE difference, right?

Well, Harold portrays himself as the savior of those hardworking dockworkers and yesterday indicated that he doesn’t care that Americans are REALLY hurting because their homes are GONE.

The rest of it reads:

“Until now, people never cared about us. When they finally realized that the chain is now broken… You know how many people depend on our jobs. Half the world! It’s time for them and time for Washington to put so much pressure on them to take care of us because we took care of them. And we’ve been here for 135 years and got them where they are and they don’t want to share. We are ready.”

Things are about to get wild.

You know what Harold? I don’t care about our economy. I don’t care about Americans who are only just crawling out from under the water, mud and mud that Helene has thrown at them. I’m not saying anything about the small businesses and grocery stores waiting for the clothing/medical supplies/Christmas decorations/food they bought in good faith that is now sitting idle on a boat in the ocean because of your unreasonable demands.

And it’s not just Harold who’s raking in the money. It’s the rest of the ILA union bosses, including Harold’s sons! This is a small example.

Keep in mind that these union bosses are cashing huge checks while shutting down the economy because they refuse to move into the 21st century. And these same union bosses supported and supported the Biden-Harris administration to the tune of millions of dollars. Still, many in the grassroots support the Trump-Vance ticket.

Let’s hope they all saved for a rainy day. If this strike continues much longer, they will lose support MAJORLY.
