Mexican soldiers kill six after shooting at a migrant truck

Mexico’s Defense Ministry said six refugees were killed and 10 others injured after Mexican soldiers opened fire on a vehicle carrying refugees.

The ministry said in a statement on Wednesday, October 2, that the incident took place on Tuesday evening in the city of Huixla, located in southwestern Mexico.

According to the statement, the vehicle was carrying 33 refugees who had entered Mexico from northern Guatemala.

The Mexican Defense Ministry stated that the refugees were citizens of Pakistan, Nepal, Egypt and India.

The statement also noted that two vehicles resembling those of criminal gangs accompanied the vehicle carrying the refugees.

This incident highlights the ongoing danger that thousands of refugees face every year as they attempt to travel via illegal routes, often losing their lives along the way.

According to reports from the International Organization for Migration, more than 63,000 people have died or gone missing before reaching their final destination in the past decade.

Mexico, along with the United States, is one of the main routes for a huge influx of refugees from various countries, including Afghanistan, wanting to reach Central and South America.

The tragic event underlines the dangerous reality refugees face when trying to cross the border, often risking their lives during perilous journeys. The situation serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of migration crises as thousands of individuals continue to search for safety and better opportunities, with many never reaching their intended destination.
