How a normal conversation about ‘gifts’ on messaging app led Delhi Police to cocaine worth Rs 5600 Cr

560 kg of drugs arrested
New Delhi: The massive seizure of over 560 kg of cocaine worth Rs 5,600 crore makes it one of the largest drug cartels ever busted in the country. Four people have been arrested in connection with the arrest. The recipient, Bharat, came to collect 15 kilograms cocaineworth around Rs 15 crores, meant for Mumbai.

It was certainly not an easy task to capture such a huge quantity of drugs involving so many people across India and another country. It all started with a ‘musical’ message between two people involved in the whole thing via an encrypted messaging app: Threema.

Police intercept innocent conversations about ‘music’

The surveillance initially intercepted a normal conversation between two people, Veer, located in Dubai and Jai in Mumbai, according to a Times of India report. The two innocently discussed a British rock band. However, a deeper investigation revealed a massive nexus between the cocaine trade and the ‘normal’ conversation was actually a secret communication between two key players in an international narcotics network, the TOI report said.

Further investigation revealed that the two were involved in a sophisticated cocaine smuggling ring, the report said.

How the police busted a cartel

The most important part of the entire operation took place when the police tracked the ‘gifts’ that had arrived in Goa from Panama through a port near Dubai, the report said. These ‘gifts’ have been further sent to UP (Hapur and Ghaziabad) and then to Mahipalpur in Delhi in recent weeks.

The officials found that one of the Threema IDs ‘VJPU69**’ under investigation belonged to a Delhi-based entity which has been in constant contact with another ID in the name of ‘Adam**’, the TOI report said.

Police intercepted the drugs as delivery neared and busted the biggest racket ever.

Police left shocked by recovery

The report added that sources cited that even the Special Cell officials were shocked when they heard about the magnitude of the seizure. They first brought hand weighing machines.

“Firstly, the seizure of cocaine on this scale marks the return of the ‘drug of the rich’ to the capital and indicates that the drug is back in demand in Delhi and Mumbai. Even now, cocaine is the most expensive drug available in the world. market,” an official said while talking about the recovery, TOI quoted.

Sleuths said this shipment came from Panama after being grown in Colombia. It went via Ethiopia to a part near Dubai and then landed in Goa.
