Punjab Police bust a syndicate that uses jackets to smuggle heroin

DGP Yadav said preliminary investigations have revealed that these drug shipments were purchased from an Afghan from Delhi, exposing their network with international drug cartels and their clever tactics of concealing heroin in jackets to evade detection.

He added that during initial interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had smuggled four consignments of heroin in collaboration with Kotkapura-based drug smuggler Lakhwinder Singh in the past two months and that the recent 10 kg of heroin was purchased in mid-September. was delivered in Moga.

Facing at least ten cases under the NDPS Act, Lakhwinder Singh is said to be the key person of this module, which controls the entire drug network.

The DGP said that police teams are searching for the absconding Lakhwinder Singh.

Further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward links in this case, he added.

Sharing details of the operation, Deputy Inspector General (Ropar), Nilambari Jagdale, said that reliable information had been received that two members of a drug syndicate, in possession of heroin, were coming towards Mohali from Delhi in a white Hyundai Aura .

Police teams led by DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar acted swiftly and set up a special check point near Dappar toll plaza in Lalru and intercepted the vehicle leading to the arrests and recovery of narcotics, they added.

Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Pareek said the suspect Sukhdeep also had a criminal past with a kidnapping case registered against him in 2020.

Since he was released on bail from Faridkot jail in May 2024, he started indulging in this heroin smuggling network in July, he added.

He said the suspect had also rented an accommodation in Sohana, Mohali, to facilitate drug smuggling operations.
