Wave of violence erupts in Salamanca amid cartel war

Twelve people were killed in a horrific series of orchestrated attacks in Salamanca, a city plagued by ongoing violence, as reported by authorities in Guanajuato, Mexico.

The victims were discovered across the city on Thursday, some next to a banner allegedly left by a drug cartel. This massacre follows an earlier attack on a drug rehabilitation center, where gunmen killed four people and injured two earlier this week.

The state of Guanajuato, long embroiled in a bloody battle between rival cartels, remains the deadliest in Mexico. Despite efforts by local and national security forces, this brutality underlines the ongoing struggle for control in Salamanca.
