Guwahati police arrest land mafia in city

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Crime Branch has arrested Zakir Hussain, a notorious land mafia who evaded police for six months. Hussain’s illegal activities included illegal land grabbing using forged documents, which earned him a spot on the city police’s ‘Most Wanted’ list for numerous cases of land fraud.

Hussain was apprehended in Garchuk, Guwahati, in a night operation, following a recent crackdown on illegal land deals that led to the arrest of several land brokers. The mafia systematically took over properties by creating false ownership documents, affecting several people.
