Female students are not part of your welfare package, do not abuse them – NAGRAT to members

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Godwin Awoonor-Yevu, has issued a stern warning to teachers against exploiting their students.

His comments were made at an event celebrating World Teachers Day on October 5 in Kwahu Mpreaso in the Eastern Region.

Mr Awoonor-Yevu stressed that teachers must fulfill their ethical responsibilities and avoid any action that could harm their students. He highlighted the serious consequences of sexual abuse and exploitation and stated that such behavior should never be linked to teachers’ welfare packages.

The chairman’s caution comes amid growing concerns about incidents of abuse in education.

He urged teachers to reflect on their role as mentors and protectors of students, rather than letting personal interests cloud their judgment.

By addressing this critical issue, Awoonor-Yevu aims to promote a safe and supportive environment for students in schools.

He called for a concerted effort by teachers to prioritize the well-being of their students and uphold the integrity of the teaching profession.

“Four teachers at a certain school separately had sexual contact with their own students, they appeared before the disciplinary committee and wept bitterly. Who caused it?”

“Whenever a teacher is involved in immoral activities, no union will come to your rescue, it is not covered under the welfare package. It will be a disciplinary issue,” he warned sternly.
