SHAH ALAM: Police arrested six men from China and a local suspect over a series of home burglaries in four states.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said they received eight reports of house burglaries in Sabak Bernam between January this year and last month.

“The reports concerned burglaries in two-storey houses. In most of these cases, valuables and cash stored in safes were missing.

“We then formed a special task force involving the D4 unit of the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department and the Sabak Bernam police.

“They gathered intelligence for over two months before making a series of arrests on Saturday and Sunday,” he told reporters today.

He said police arrested six men from China and a Malaysian man during the raids in Kuala Lumpur and Subang Jaya.

“We believe these men hired two Perodua vehicles and stayed in hotels to avoid detection.

“We have linked these suspects to residential burglaries in Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak and Selangor.”

He said that based on their investigation, the suspects had no identification documents.

He added that police believe this is the first time a group of Chinese nationals has been arrested for home invasions in the state.

“We have previously announced that Latino gangs are committing such crimes, but this is the first time that Chinese nationals have been involved.”

Hussein said the group usually monitored target houses and struck at night or early in the morning.

“While we have linked them to 13 cases so far, the number of home burglaries could be much higher.”

He added that the suspects have been remanded in custody for seven days.

He said investigations revealed that the arrested Malaysian suspect was a fence for the group.

“He is the one who would sell or throw away the items stolen by the group.”
