New FCT police boss promises intelligence-led policing – Nigeria – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

The new Police Commissioner in charge of the FCT Command, CP Olatunji Disu, has vowed to implement an intelligence-led policing approach, warning kidnappers and one-time robbers to leave the city.

He hinted that strengthening police intelligence gathering capabilities will be crucial in pre-emptively tackling potential threats and criminal activities during his term.

Addressing journalists after taking over the reins at FCT, Disu expressed his gratitude to the Inspector General of Police for entrusting him with the crucial responsibility of overseeing Abuja.

“As I assume this role, I am acutely aware of the security challenges facing the FCT and the foundational work laid by my predecessors to maintain relative peace. I am committed to building on this foundation and increasing our efforts to significantly improve the security situation on our territory,” Disu said.

“To those who seek to disturb the peace of the FCT, I send a clear and determined message: my term in office will be marked by a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of crime and criminality. We will not waver in our commitment to protect our community and ensure that law enforcement is both effective and respects the rights of all citizens.

“I also want to strengthen our partnerships with local organizations, community leaders and other stakeholders. Together we will promote trust and collaborate on innovative strategies to address the safety issues affecting our residents.

“Your insights and feedback will be invaluable as we tackle these challenges together, and we will actively encourage feedback from the public to refine our approach.”

He added that his command would prioritize community policing and technology-driven investigations, among others.

“We will strengthen our community policing initiatives to ensure our officers are more visible and accessible, promoting a sense of safety and trust among residents,” he said.

“We will deploy modern technology to support our policing efforts, using tools such as data analytics and surveillance systems to improve our operational efficiency and response times.

“Emphasis will be placed on continuous training of our officers to ensure they are equipped with the latest techniques and knowledge in modern policing.

“We will actively engage the public through town hall meetings and outreach programs to create a stronger bond between the police and the community.

“To the general public, I urge your support and active participation in our law enforcement efforts. Policing is a collective responsibility, and together we can create a safer environment for everyone.”
