Land grab in Chokramudi: CPI member claims role of party district secretary, finance minister’s office

A district councilor of the Communist Party of India (CPI) in Idukki has leveled serious allegations against the party’s district secretary and the finance minister’s office over the alleged land grabbing in the Chokramudi Hills in the upstream area of the Bison Valley Panchayat here . Speaking to the media in Thodupuzha on Monday, CPI district councilor Vinu Scaria alleged that party district secretary K. Salimkumar had entered into shady deals with the land mafia that encroached on the Chokramudi Hills. “The Cabinet of Ministers allegedly intervened in Chokramudi’s land issues. Only a judicial investigation can reveal the dark plans behind the alleged land grab,” Scaria said.

“I have filed a complaint with CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam about the alleged involvement of the CPI district secretary in the land grab. However, the leadership took no action. The state leadership directed the district secretary to investigate the complaint against him,” Mr. Scaria alleged.

Mr Scaria further alleged that Mr Salim Kumar had said that he was not aware of the complaint against him. “But the reality is that he sought an explanation for the complaint,” he said.

Meanwhile, the CPI district leadership has said that they welcome any investigation into the Chokramudi land grab.

During his visit to the spot recently, Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan also alleged the involvement of the CPI district administration and the revenue department in the land encroachment issue.
