Would Kari Lake use her tortured Gallego logic on JD Vance?

Lake foolishly tried to connect Gallego to his criminal father. However, as many great success stories prove, overcoming a difficult upbringing is something to be celebrated. Not ridiculed.

Last week, Kari Lake said Ruben Gallego is being “controlled” by cartels because Gallego’s father, who abandoned his family when Gallego was young, had a criminal drug history.

Gallego was disgusted.

But he should have thanked her.

What Lake did – without knowing it, since knowing things is not Lake’s forte – was inadvertently equating Gallego with the likes of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Charles Dickens, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison and Ludwig von Beethoven .

Overcoming obstacles is a very American story

Each of them, in their own way, had to overcome wayward parents or difficult childhoods to succeed. And of course there are more, in all areas.

Charlie Chaplin was abandoned in orphanages.

Oprah Winfrey had to overcome sexual abuse by a family member.

Former President Gerald Ford’s original last name was King. It was from his abusive, alcoholic biological father. Ford took the name of his mother’s second husband.

There are many stories like this.

Gallego’s is one of them.

No stain on Gallego’s family, just one criminal

Lake foolishly said of him, “We need to make it clear what he stands for. I want to confront the cartels. I want to take down the cartels. I want to end the cartels.

“He will never confront the cartels; he is controlled by them. He has close relatives who are drug traffickers.”

They want dirt on Gallego’s divorce: It’s an old tactic

Calling her a “pathetic loser,” Gallego added, “She brings it up because my father, who abandoned my family, is a convicted drug dealer.

‘It is a stain that our family has had to bear. This is why my mother, my sisters and I have worked our entire lives to truly live the American Dream and serve and honor this country, despite what he has done.

Would Lake apply the same logic to JD Vance?

Gallego’s father’s criminal past is not a stain on Gallego’s family. It’s just a stain on the criminal.

The fact that Ruben Gallego overcame his difficult childhood, attended Harvard, served in the Marines, and then was elected to the Arizona House and Congress is something to be celebrated. Not ridiculed.

However, if Lake believes that offspring should be judged for the sins of their parents, she may want to consider the family circumstances of her political guru’s running mate, Donald Trump.

The mother of Republican vice presidential candidate Senator JD Vance was a drug user with a criminal past.

I suspect Lake wouldn’t dare say that Vance’s mother’s substance abuse means we should consider JD Vance an addict.

Or would she?
