The sheriff’s department says that after officers arrived at the scene where the noise came from, they found an inmate covered in blood. Near the victim, three other inmates were cleaning up the bloody mess. The sheriff’s department confirms that 30-year-old Dustin Carter, 42-year-old Brandon Carroll and 30-year-old Cody Enochs were charged in connection with this incident Monday morning.

“28th Judicial District Attorney Frederick H. Agee will prosecute this case in court. Where these three individuals were indicted this morning on one count each of attempted murder,” said CCSD Public Information Officer Stephen Sutton.

Records show Carter originally pleaded guilty to a drug charge but violated his probation. On July 16, he was charged with aggravated domestic violence by strangulation. Carroll was on probation for aggravated assault and later faced pending charges of aggravated assault, criminal liability for burglary and kidnapping.

Further investigation revealed that Carroll had previously been convicted of six charges of aggravated assault, with three charges of aggravated assault still pending. Finally, Enochs had previously pleaded guilty to a class D felony of theft of property.

“These individuals were actually in jail for – two of them on new charges – while on probation, and the other violated his probation for some other unknown reason at this time,” Sutton said.

The sheriff’s department says after correctional officers located the victim, they provided care and called emergency services to transport him to a local hospital.

“He was subsequently taken to a trauma center where he underwent surgery to assist him and is currently recovering from the extensive injuries sustained from this attempted murder that occurred in our jail,” Sutton said.

The cause of this attack is currently unknown. Officers have reported that this group of inmates got along before this incident.

“We are not aware that there was any gang affiliation involved in this attack that occurred in our jail,” Sutton said.

The three alleged attackers were transported to different prisons immediately after this altercation. They will appear in court in this case later.
