“NC-Congress alliance will cross magic number of 50”: Congress leader Ahmad Mir

Anantnag, October 08: As counting of votes was underway, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Congress leader and party candidate from Dooru constituency, exuded confidence in the party’s victory in the Assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu Kashmir and said that the alliance of the National Conference and Congress will exceed the magic number of 50.

Speaking to ANI, Ghulam Ahmad Mir said, “According to ground reporting after polls, we knew it was going to be a landslide victory for us, same with the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. There is a strong anti-incumbency wave against the BJP, which is why we have forged a viable alliance. And according to today’s initial trends, we believe the alliance will exceed the magic number of 50.”

Meanwhile, the latest trends from the Election Commission of India have indicated that in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference-Congress alliance has crossed the halfway point with a lead of 47 seats at 10.45 am.

The BJP leads with 28 seats, while the PDP leads with 4 seats. The JK People’s Conference has two seats, while independents and smaller parties have eight seats.

The voting results will decide the electoral fate of several former ministers including Tara Chand, Muzaffar Baig, Raman Bhalla, Basharat Bukha, along with Omar Abdullah, Ravinder Raina, Yousuf Tarigami and several others.

Former JK CM Omar Abdullah said the alliance was in pole position to win and urged the BJP not to play dirty tricks.

“We are hopeful that we will win. We will get to know the decision of the voters of J&K today afternoon. There must be transparency; if the people’s mandate is against the BJP, they should not play tricks. We made an alliance so that we can win and we hope to win,” Omar Abdullah said.

In Jammu, Congress candidate from Bahu Assembly seat, TS Tony said the Congress-NC alliance was all set to form the government.

“The Congress-NC alliance will form the government with a two-thirds majority. In the past, people only trusted statements. Now all the lies are exposed. People know everything now. This was the city of temples. BJP made it the city of liquors. They say it’s to generate revenue. People are frustrated with the liquor and land mafia. They are now exposed. The public no longer trusts them. BJP is killing democracy. The appointment of five MLAs had to be made by the elected government. Even the president does not have this power of direct appointment. How can the LG have this arbitrary power?” he said.

The National Conference and the Jammu and Kashmir Congress, partners in the INDIA alliance, jointly contested the parliamentary elections, while the PDP and the BJP fought the elections on their own.

The JK elections for 90 constituencies were held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1.
