Watchman: Daily devotional, they had lost their teachable attitude and open mind. They believed that they had full knowledge of the truth and that Google would not accept anything that did not fit into the hard container of their narrow thinking, they are doomed!

John’s disciples wondered why they and the Pharisees fasted, but not Jesus’ disciples. Jesus responded with a marriage analogy. If there is a wedding, visitors are required to participate in a celebration. Jesus has arrived to take the church as his bride. He calls people from all over the world to be His. They should rejoice while he is with them. He predicts that Jesus will be removed, and as a result they will fast.

He then moves on to another analogy. Jesus could use analogies to express things that he could not express explicitly. It made the audience think more thoroughly and not get upset so easily. We find it difficult to identify with the analogy of wine bottles. The new skin felt soft and supple. It grew next to the wine as it fermented. It began to solidify into the shape it had grown into after fermentation. If you tried to reuse it for new wine, it would tear, resulting in the loss of both the wine and the skins. The Pharisees and the rest of John’s disciples had accepted the Old Covenant. The norms and structure of the law formed their container. Jesus came to establish the New Covenant. They would have harmed both the truth and themselves if they had attempted the change now.

Some Pharisees and disciples of John made the switch. They were still customizable. Their beliefs had not yet crystallized. For some it was too late. They had lost their educational attitude and open mind. They believed that they had full knowledge of the truth and would not accept anything that did not fit into the hard package of their narrow thinking. Maintain your adaptability! One way to do this is to think about how many times you’ve been wrong. Jesus has much to teach, doctrines to change, and attitudes to change.

Think about this: the best preservative for wine skins is humility.

In the Bible, the Watchman is responsible for keeping watch and warning others of possible danger or impending judgment.
