Lawyers are preparing for legal action against the government over rescued GISBH children

PETALING JAYA: A group of lawyers is considering legal action against the government over alleged abuse of the law in the case of children rescued from charities that authorities have linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH).

In a joint statement, the lawyers expressed concern over reports that children were separated from their parents during investigations into the company’s activities and alleged crimes, including child exploitation and sexual abuse.

According to multiple sources, these separations took place outside the limits of legal protocol, including those provided for in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the group said.

The group consists of Nizam Bashir, Rizal Abdullah, Dorina Abdullah, Hizri Hasshan, Shahrin Satheer and Asmawati Shuaib.

The group said it is preparing to initiate legal proceedings to address alleged violations and secure the immediate return of children who may have been unlawfully separated from their families.

The group urged authorities to strictly adhere to the law and initiated legal proceedings.

Any action taken outside these parameters could have serious legal consequences, particularly as regards the welfare and interests of the children affected.

When contacted, Nizam said that some parents had indeed approached them to act on their behalf and that the lawyers would file the suits later this week.

Earlier today, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the total number of children rescued from the charity homes now stands at 662.

Fahmi, who is also a government spokesperson, said they have all now been given protection orders.
