Mexico’s Bold Security Strategy: Strengthening the National Guard

Mexico’s newly elected government unveiled a comprehensive security strategy on Tuesday aimed at strengthening the National Guard and improving intelligence tactics. This announcement was made during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s daily press conference.

Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch announced that the National Guard currently has 133,000 members, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening this force. The initiative aims to shift the focus to crime prevention and providing relief to crime-ridden areas.

President Sheinbaum emphasized that her administration’s approach is not a direct confrontation with drug cartels, but a broader support strategy aimed at regions plagued by violence and tackling drug addiction problems among young people.
