Trump’s visit to Aurora draws mixed reviews, but everyone agrees his gang’s claim is untrue

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) Former President Donald Trump has been talking about coming to Aurora for a while.

Now that he is actually coming, the people in the city are in an uproar.

Trump, the Republican Party’s presidential candidate, began mentioning Aurora at campaign rallies after seeing a viral video of men carrying guns at an apartment complex where a large number of migrants lived.

It was the viral video that caught Trump’s attention. It showed an armed group of men at an apartment complex on Dallas Street, which also had piles of trash.

Trump claimed that the men seen in the video were part of a Venezuelan gang that had taken over the city.

However, Aurora police released an arrest affidavit earlier this month discussing the six men seen in the viral video. The agency said it has no information that “leads us to believe” that any of the six suspects are connected to a criminal organization, including the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which has a confirmed presence in Aurora.

Nevertheless, FOX31 contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Bureau of Enforcement and Removal in late September and was told by a spokesperson that two of the suspects are both Venezuelan citizens.

Some said Tuesday that the former president’s visit is unnecessary.

“Not at all. Gangs don’t let the trash pile up. That’s not their job. That’s the landlord’s duty to dump the trash that’s higher than an 8-foot fence,” said Aurora resident Lyndell Williams .

But some welcome Trump, despite his claims that Aurora police and the city say are simply not true.

“I’m for (Trump’s visit) and the whole gang situation, I think it’s pretty limited to that area and I don’t think it’s as bad as they said it was,” Aurora resident Jennie Brown said.

Trump will use the campaign stop at the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center on Friday to emphasize his stance on immigration.

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has also made immigration reform a priority.

“I don’t like either one, but overall they need to sort out the border and the whole situation, but Aurora is a great place to live,” Brown said.

The race is tied for Colorado’s 8th Congressional District in a new poll

Aurora now finds itself at the center of an immigration debate that Trump will draw even more attention to on Friday.

“The bottom line is, when he comes for something that’s not true and made up, the bottom line is there’s no reason for him to be here,” said former Aurora resident Lawrence Childress.

FOX31 reached out to several law enforcement agencies to see if they could tell us more about where exactly the former president will be visiting on Friday. Everyone said Trump’s exact movements are confidential.
