MTV Europe Music Awards: Female acts dominate the 2024 nominations

The nominations for the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) have been announced, and Taylor Swift leads the pack with seven nominations.

The 34-year-old pop superstar is up for awards in categories including Best US Act, Best Artist, Best Video and Best Collaboration, all on the back of her album ‘The department of tortured poets‘, which was released earlier this year.

Swift, who is now the world’s richest female musician according to Forbes, he is competing against artists, among others RAYE, Sabrina Timmerman, Billie Eilish and nominated for the first time Chappell Roan for Best Artist.

Last year was the MTV EMA ceremony canceled two weeks before the show due to the “volatility of world events”, after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. It was the first EMA ceremony to be canceled in its 30-year history.

Female artists are leading the way this year, with 10 of the 11 artists with the most nominations being women. Billie Eilish Charli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter each scored five nominations, followed by BeyonceLISA, Ayra Starr, Chappell Roan and Tyla with four.

According to MTV, there are 19 nominees who have a chance to win their very first EMA this year, including British and Irish acts such as Disclosure, Fred Again.., Fontaines DC And The last dinner.

As for the Best Regional Act nominees, the eclectic selection once again highlights the globalization of pop music.

Fans from 23 regions around the world can vote for their favorites on the EMA website from now until November 6th.

The MTV EMA ceremony will take place on November 10, for the first time in Manchester at the Co-op Live Arena – which opened earlier this year after many setbacks and cancellations.
