A key member of the Moroccan-born Mocro mafia was arrested in Paris on Tuesday, French media reported.

The man, a Moroccan citizen in his 30s, was arrested by GIGN, a French gendarmerie unit, as he left a restaurant in the 18th arrondissement on a European arrest warrant issued by the Netherlands.

Considered a prime target of the Mocro mafia, he was wanted for drug trafficking and the production of synthetic drugs.

The man will be brought before a French court, which is expected to initiate his extradition process to the Netherlands.

According to European law enforcement, the Mocro Mafia, a Netherlands-based criminal organization with Moroccan roots, controls an estimated one-third of Europe’s cocaine trade.
