Court summary: Man accused of attempted murder requests jury trial

An Aberdeen man charged with attempted murder has requested a jury trial.

Rufus Reed, 53, appeared in court on Thursday, October 3, at the Brown County Courthouse.

He also faces one count of domestic violence and aggravated assault. He has entered not guilty pleas, but no trial date has been set. He remains in prison.

Reed is accused in an early morning Sept. 8 stabbing reported in the 600 block of South Grand Street. According to information from Aberdeen Police, a 52-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times in the legs, hands, arms, back and torso. She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released the same day.

The attempted murder charge carries a life sentence.

Aberdeen woman pleads not guilty to rape

In an unrelated case, Ciara Ochotorena, 31, of Aberdeen, appeared in court on Wednesday, October 2 and pleaded not guilty to the charge of raping a 13-year-old. She also asked for a jury trial.

Ochotorena is also charged with sexual contact with a minor and sexual exploitation. She faces two felony counts of distributing material harmful to minors – the 13-year-old and a 14-year-old.

The rape charge carries a life sentence. No trial date has been set and Ochotorena remains in prison.
