US states have filed a lawsuit against TikTok for lack of protection for young users

On October 8, 13 US states and the District of Columbia filed lawsuits TikTokaccusing her of harming and failing to protect young children.

Chinese social media platform TikTok is currently accused of using addictive software to keep children on screen while failing to effectively moderate the platform’s content.

The lawsuit from 13 US states and the District of Columbia has further expanded the conflict, and now the US regulator is seeking to punish the company financially for the accusation.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta stated that TikTok was exploiting social media addiction to increase its profits, while also targeting children who lack the necessary development to protect themselves from the company’s predatory tactics .

TikTok maximizes the time its users spend on the platform and targets them with advertisements. While the addictive social media platform is causing the mental health of many young people to deteriorate.

TikTok denied all the claims, calling them “inaccurate” and “misleading,” while expressing disappointment over the state’s unwillingness to work with TikTok in seeking a more “constructive” solution. TikTok also emphasizes that it has offered many safety features, such as a screen time limit and a default privacy mode for minors under 16.

At the same time, Washington DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb suspects that TikTok’s livestreaming services and virtual currencies operate without licenses, while also highlighting the platform’s predatory and dangerous tactics towards young people.

Washington also accused TikTok of promoting sexual exploitation of underage users through its livestreaming service and virtual currency, calling it a “Virtual Strip Club” with no age restrictions.
