Bills Reacts Survey: How confident are you in Buffalo, fresh off two big losses?

The Buffalo Bills are 3-2 and in first place in the AFC East, but you might not realize that given the way they’ve been reeling after a pair of losses to Super Bowl hopeful AFC teams.

Buffalo was pushed off the court against the Baltimore Ravens after falling behind 21-3 – a first-half hole that proved to be too much to get out of in time. The Bills followed up their Week 4 loss with a completely frustrating afternoon against the Houston Texans. In another unproductive start to the offense, Buffalo found itself in a 20-3 pit at Houston. The Bills would eventually claw their way out to tie the game, but were ultimately undone thanks to a lifeless passing game and some very suspect coaching decisions.

For most of Bills Mafia, the results of the last two games are in stark contrast to people’s expectations for a Bills team led by quarterback Josh Allen. Head coach Sean McDermott has history on his side as the team’s winningest regular season coach since Marv Levy.

However, these Buffalo Bills are a different breed and through five games their best offensive strength has been running the ball. Many will say this bodes well for late-season football. However, if a team cannot scare the opposing defense with its passing game, it becomes much easier to shut down run plays. If the Bills found themselves in a shootout at this point, few would pick them to match the game and come out on top.

That said, the Bills are in first place in the AFC East, and the rest of their rivals are in much worse shape overall. All the promise the New York Jets have built up has fallen to pieces with the latest news that head coach Robert Saleh has been fired and given a security notice for his walk out of the building.

On Monday, the Bills and Jets will play each other for the first time this season, with the division lead up for grabs. Should Buffalo win, they will build a two-game cushion against the Jets, who will now have to get through the season with an interim head coach.

Make no mistake, the Jets are a complete mess, even considering the mercurial Aaron Rodgers. It’s possible they’re a bigger mess because of his presence in the Meadowlands. The bills should do what good teams do and push them aside. To that end, the Buffalo Bills entered Week 6 as 2.5-point Fan Duel road favorites over the Jets.

Offensive coordinator Joe Brady said if the Bills were 3-2 and riding a three-game winning streak, the outlook would be different. While it’s true that optics are important, losing two straight games against some of the AFC’s best teams at the end of the season could come back to bite Buffalo.

Even though the Bills lost to the Ravens last week, 88% of voters had confidence in the team’s direction. Now, with a second loss in as many weeks and given Buffalo’s situation at receiver, do you still have confidence in these Buffalo Bills?
