Caregiver accused of sexual assault and neglect in Sumner County

GALLATIN, Tenn. – A Sumner County man who acted as a caregiver for a vulnerable adult was charged and arrested last month after Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents received allegations of abuse against the vulnerable adult.

Boris Whitworth, 69, was charged on September 4 with two counts of aggravated rape, one count of neglect of a vulnerable adult and one count of sexual exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

Nathan Nichols, assistant attorney general for the 18th Judicial District, requested an investigation by TBI agents in June after allegations of abuse were made against Whitworth. The 35-year-old victim was transported from Sumner County Regional Medical Center to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he required treatment for injuries sustained during an assault.

Whitworth was booked into the Sumner County Jail and is currently being held on a $300,000 bond.

TBI included the following statement with their arrest report:

“The charges and allegations referenced in this press release are merely allegations of criminal conduct and not evidence. The suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through a fair trial.”

As Channel 5 turns 70, we remember the 1960s RnB showcase Night Train

People of my generation: In our younger years, we spent part of our weekends watching music shows like American Bandstand and Soul Train. That was before the era of music videos. Several years before Soul Train aired from Chicago, another syndicated R&B show was taped in Nashville on NewsChannel 5. Night Train aired in the 1960s and featured what may have been the first TV appearance of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Forrest Sanders once again looks back on the station’s history.
