Goose Creek man is charged with distributing child sexual abuse material

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Gregory Keith Day, a 44-year-old resident of Goose Creek, South Carolina. Day faces thirteen charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrest was made by investigators with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

The investigation was assisted by several agencies, including the Attorney General’s Office, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Goose Creek Police Department, Mount Pleasant Police Department, Summerville Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. All of these entities are part of the state’s ICAC Task Force.

The case began when investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). According to investigators, Day distributed files containing child sexual abuse material.

Day was taken into custody on October 9, 2024. He is charged with 13 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor under statute §16-15-405. Each charge carries a possible prison sentence of up to 10 years.

The prosecution will be handled by the Public Prosecution Service. Attorney General Wilson emphasized that “all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”

Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) is considered a more precise term for such crimes than “pornography,” which may imply consent of the minors involved. The shift towards the use of CSAM reflects this understanding worldwide.
