NBA reporter sees Suns superstar in Miami Heat’s future?

The Miami Heat cannot compete in the Eastern Conference against teams like the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks.

The Heat aren’t known for rebuilding their roster from scratch, instead looking to find new stars to continue competing for championships. Miami-based NBA reporter Dan Le Batard believes the Heat will go this route again by targeting Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant.

“There’s no reason in the world for Pat Riley to be working at his age, almost 80,” Le Batard said on his show. “He’s not going to wait for another young team to come along and develop… I’ve been making the assumption that the next move is going to be a collection of pieces that Jimmy Butler gets for one year, Jimmy Butler max, and then he’s going to try to get (Kevin) Durant back. I’ve been making the assumption that that’s the move they’re going to try to get in the game, because I don’t see a better one.”

Even if acquiring Durant means giving up a big chunk of their future, a title would undo any long-term damage. It’s undoubtedly a risk given the lack of success the Suns’ Big Three had in their first season together, but as Le Batard pointed out, Riley is likely running out of time in the NBA.
