Is Panathinaikos right to criticize the C’s for claiming to have become world champions?

How do we feel about the head coach of EuroLeague ballclub Panathinaikos criticizing the Boston Celtics for claiming to be world champions? On the one hand, there is no greater collection of basketball talent in any other league on Earth (and honestly, it’s not even close).

But on the other hand, if we say that the games have to be played before we can crown a team champion of the federation, shouldn’t that same logic apply on a global scale? The argument of the head coach of the Greek club is legitimate when you put it in that context. The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took a look in a recent episode.
