Man dies after car crashes into guardrail on I-91: police

The 44-year-old Portland man was driving north on I-91 in Rocky Hill when the crash happened early Saturday morning, police said.



ROCKY HILL, CT — A Portland man died early Saturday morning when he was thrown from his car after it struck a guardrail on Interstate 91.

According to Connecticut State Police, 44-year-old Marcos Benitez Rengifo was driving north on I-91, south of Exit 24, when his car left the road and struck a metal guardrail shortly before 3 a.m. Police said Rengifo was thrown from the car in the crash.

After the crash, a second vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old New Jersey man, was also traveling north on I-91 when it collided with Rengifo’s broken down car.

Rengifo was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the second car was not injured.
