Northeast Iowa bridge projects stalled by high river levels continue – KCHA News

Construction of a new bridge over the Mississippi River near Lansing is resuming after construction was delayed over the past three weeks by flooding and high water levels.

Pete Hjelmstad of the Iowa DOT’s Mason City District office says the suspension of work, which began in early June, is expected to end Monday (7:22 a.m.).

While work is starting up again, it will be some time before construction can begin on the new Iowa Highway 3 bridge over the Cedar River in Waverly, Hjelmstad said.

High water levels on the Winnebago River also halted work on replacing the eastbound Highway 122 bridge on the west side of Mason City for several weeks. However, Hjelmstad said the shutdown of that work ended earlier this week.

Hjelmstad also notes that crews were busy pouring the deck Thursday (07:18) as part of the bridge replacement project on Iowa Highway 14 near Roseville. A deck is expected to be poured within a few weeks for the bridge replacement on U.S. Highway 18 near the Ionia exit.
