Computer outage affects local services

A global computer outage impacted a number of services in the state of Kansas and local services in Saline County on Friday.

According to the state of Kansas, A software update from vendor partner CrowdStrike impacted services provided by executive branch agencies. CrowdStrike, a vendor partner, deployed an update late Thursday night and into the early morning hours of Friday that affected servers and computers. CrowdStrike has provided fixes and OITS is working closely with them and executive branch agencies to resolve any issues. This is a global issue that affects many people outside of Kansas.

Locally in Salina, the tag office was hit. The Kansas State Motor Vehicle Division sent everyone home from their Topeka office. The Salina tag office could not process anything motor vehicle related, including tag or title related issues. The tag office remained open only to answer questions.

Officials stress that this was not a cyberattack and that there is no risk to people’s safety.
