The Great American Getaway 400 NASCAR Cup Series

Brick factory 400:

The NASCAR Cup Series drivers head to the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 21. This is the 22nd race of the regular season, so time is running out for drivers who miss out and want to claim a playoff spot. There are only four races left after this weekend, but they will all be on oval tracks.

The race at Indy has been the Verizon 200 on a street course for the past three years, but the Cup Series has gone back to the more traditional oval track and drivers will complete 160 laps of the 2.5-mile asphalt circuit.

2024 NASCAR Cup Series Standings

The playoff picture hasn’t really changed since last week, when Ryan Blaney took the checkered flag at Pocono. There are 12 winners filling the 16 playoff spots, when Blaney claimed his second win of the season. That leaves just four playoff spots, with five races remaining.

Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin and William Byron all have three wins. Bowman and Logano are the most recent additions to the “one win” group, which also includes Tyler Reddick, Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez and Austin Cindric. Blaney is the only driver with two wins.

Bell’s 24 Bonus Playoff Points are the most. Larson is a close second with 23. Hamlin finally broke the 20-point barrier with last week’s Stage 2 win, along with a strong second-place finish. There are 18 drivers overall with playoff points, with five – Bell, Larson, Hamlin, Byron and Blaney – in double figures.

The first playoff race is the Quaker State 400 on September 8 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Brickyard 400 Winners

Only two active drivers have three victories in the Brickyard 400 on the oval, as the last three years have been on the street circuit. Kyle Busch won in 2015 and 2016, and Keselowski won in 2018 when the race was held in September. So we don’t have a ton of current form data for this race, given all the driver changes over the years.
