Why is Orlando in the name of Melbourne airport?

The name was originally Orlando Melbourne International Airport.

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority sued its Orlando counterpart in federal court in March 2019, alleging trademark infringement and false advertising. Both airport authorities agreed to settle the lawsuit in March 2021, with the new name Melbourne Orlando International Airport.

“We’re not trying to be Orlando. Our service area and our customers don’t stop at the city limits. This is not a city-specific element,” Greg Donovan, the airport’s chief executive, said at the time. “The term Orlando is a geographic identifier. And that geographic identifier is extremely important to people who are coming from different areas.”
