Support Julian Morris’ legal defense during the tragedy

DOVER — As previously reported in Morris focusJulian Morris, a member of Dover High School’s 2011 graduating class, has been identified as a suspect by Birmingham police. (Click here to read the previous article.)

Julian’s attorney, Victor Revill, Esq., issued the following press release on behalf of his client.

“Mr. Morris is a college veteran who served his country faithfully as a Marine. He has no prior convictions for misdemeanors or felonies. Despite the false stories being spread about him in this situation, he loved Deundray Cottrell and is currently grieving the death of his loved one. Mr. Morris also wants answers and is awaiting those answers after a thorough investigation is completed. On the advice of his attorney, he will not be making any further statements at this time.”

Editor’s Note: Mr. Revill sent Morris Focus a video of Deundray Cottrell running through gardens on the evening of July 4th, and Julian was nowhere to be seen. The video indicates that Deundray was running from someone. Unfortunately, we are unable to republish the video due to copyright infringement.

Kassandra Stafford is organizing the fundraiser. She says, “Our family has suffered a profound tragedy. Julian’s beloved friend of many years, Deundray Cottrell, was found dead in a shed at his sister’s home in Birmingham, Alabama. His death has been ruled a homicide and we are devastated.

What adds to our sadness is that Birmingham Police have identified Julian as a person of interest. This has created undue attention and speculation, with people presenting opinions as facts. Social media has only fueled these stories, while forgetting that the investigation is still ongoing.

We cannot mourn the loss of Deundray, who we considered family, as we are continually confronted with accusations and innuendo. Julian has retained an attorney to protect his safety and well-being as law enforcement seeks answers.

Anyone who knows Julian knows that he is a caring and loving person. He is suffering greatly from the loss of Deundray and cannot express his grief openly. As legal costs mount, we are asking for your support. We have set up this fundraiser to help cover Julian’s legal costs. Your contributions will not only help ensure that Julian receives the legal assistance he needs, but will also help us find some stability in the midst of this turmoil.
