Wakefield Trinity suffer first defeat of Championship season – Total Rugby League

WAKEFIELD TRINITY have been defeated in the championship for the first time this season.

Daryl Powell’s men suffered a 32-4 defeat in France as Toulouse simply outclassed the leaders.

The French side started in the best possible way, Olly Ashall-Bott somehow managed to ground a bouncing ball in front of the deadball line in the 14th minute. Ryan Rivett was unable to score.

But just before the half hour mark, Sylvain Houles’ men struck again. Ashall-Bott turned over the goal as dummy-half and Robin Brochon scored the decisive goal to make it 10-0.

Things got worse for Wakefield when Jack Croft was sent to the sinbin for a tip tackle with Paul Ulberg and Ashall-Bott – for his hat-trick – scoring before half-time.

Trailing 20-0 at half-time, Trinity pulled some momentum back when Derrell Olpherts crossed for a corner straight after the restart, but Toulouse took advantage and scored two late tries through Reubenn Rennie and Ulberg to make it 32-4 and catch the visitors off guard.
