Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are the BEST duo in the WNBA

Remember when everyone thought Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark couldn’t play on the same team? Well, that group has changed a bit now. To start the season, Clark and Boston were averaging 46.6 points, a combined offensive rating of 94.2%, and an assist ratio of 16.5. By June, the Boston and Clark dynamic would work better together, with an average offensive rating of 100.9, an assist ratio of 18.7, and a combined average of 60.5 points. It just took some time for these two players to get used to each other and understand each other’s playing styles.

It’s not even a full month of July yet and the duo is averaging 66 points, a 104.5 offensive rating, and an 18.5 assist ratio. Against the Dallas Wings, both Boston and Clark made history for most assists from one teammate to another in a single game during the season, with nine assists from Caitlin Clark to Aliyah Boston. When these two are on the court for the Indiana Fever, they’re averaging 49.8% of their points in the paint, making 76.6% of their three-pointers with assists. It shouldn’t come as a surprise from the outset that it would take time for these two to get on the same page.

When you look at the progress Boston and Clark have made, they are developing into one of the best duos in the WNBA. Statistically, they may not seem like the best duo in the league on paper, but watching them play alongside each other is magical.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and the Indiana Fever will take time to rebuild. However, rebuilding through Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark is the best solution for their future. Through the pick and roll, offball screens, you can see how the chemistry between these two has built over the past few months compared to the first few games the Fever had. For two young players, it’s incredible to see them play like they’ve been in the league for a while, as we see from duos like Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, or Jackie Young and A’ja Wilson, these are other duos that Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are tied with for the way they help the Indiana Fever win games. Against the Dallas Wings, Boston and Clark combined for 52 of the Fever’s 93 points.

With Boston and Clark, you get nearly identical numbers in terms of points because of how well they can play together. There is more efficiency when the two are on the court together, especially when the Fever is running pick and rolls. Because of Boston’s ability as a big player and Clark’s passing, this could be a big reason why there was so much pressure on the two to succeed right away, as they are back-to-back number one overall picks for the Fever and fans want to see instant success.

It would be unfair to judge this duo based on the first five games of the season, because let’s not forget that Caitlin Clark was literally just drafted and barely had time to practice with the Fever as a whole before being rested and getting more practice with the team itself. The Indiana Fever could very well have two Rookie of the Year’s, but you have two players who are different in their own way but complement each other perfectly. This could very well be the best duo in the WNBA, if not now, then by the end of the season.
