Derek Meadows Commits to LSU!

Fresh off of adding five-star cornerback DJ Pickett, LSU added a second blue chip prospect to its 2025 recruiting class this week.

Four-star wide receiver Derek Meadows out of Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas committed to the Tigers on Saturday. Meadows picked LSU over SEC rival Alabama, and Brian Kelly’s old stomping grounds Notre Dame.

“To be the best you must outwork the rest and LSU was the place to do it,” Meadows said.

Depending on what recruiting service you subscribe to, Meadows is either a mid/high four-star or a five-star. 247 has him ranked as a five-star and the No. 32 overall player, while he is No. 41 in On3’s composite rankings. Meadows is the No. 6 receiver in his class per On3’s composite rankings.

Notre Dame appeared to be the frontrunner for Meadows but that changed after he took an official visit to Baton Rouge in June. That visit and the recruiting efforts of Cortez Hankton helped LSU overtake Notre Dame and secure Meadows’ pledge.

“Hankton played in the pros,” Meadows’ father told On3. “He has a pretty good idea how to build a wide receiver as you see from history. I like their attitude. The way they run practice, it’s very quick, very firm, making sure everyone is running from point to point. Definitely the environment. They’re a family over there. It’s a great family environment.”

Meadows is the second wide receiver in LSU’s 2025 class, joining TaRon Francis. He gives LSU a total of 18 commits and he’s the 16th four/five-star in the class. LSU’s 2025 class is still ranked third in the nation behind only Alabama and Ohio State.
