Provincetown Kamala Harris Fundraiser – NBC Boston

Vice President Kamala Harris headlined a high-profile political fundraiser in Provincetown, Massachusetts, on Saturday, reaffirming her support for President Joe Biden as he continues to face calls from Democrats to end his re-election campaign.

The sold-out event, held at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum, featured an all-star cast of politicians and celebrities, the Boston Globe reported. Attendees included Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and actors Jennifer Coolidge, Adrienne Warren and Billy Porter. A number of local leaders were also in attendance, including Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, Sen. Ed Markey, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Attorney General Andrea Campbell.

Bryan Rafanelli, one of the fundraiser’s hosts, tells the Globe that the event raised more than $2 million on behalf of the Biden Victory Fund. About $1 million of that total, which was the event’s original goal, was raised before the debate.

At Saturday’s fundraiser, Harris admitted it won’t be an easy road to re-election, but he confidently proclaimed, “We’re going to win this election.”

She also called Biden “one of the most influential presidents in American history.”

“I can testify as a firsthand witness that every decision he makes in the White House, I can tell you, he thinks about the impact it will have on ordinary people,” she said.

Harris also used the fundraiser in Provincetown, a major center for LGBTQ+ culture, to criticize the message of unity expressed by former President Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention and his recently announced running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio.

Of Trump, Harris said: “When you claim to stand for unity, you have to know that it’s more than just a word.”

She also referenced Vance’s previous comments critical of LGBTQ+ rights, saying he would “undoubtedly be a force for good” for Trump’s extremist, anti-LGBTQ agenda.

According to The Globe, Harris is expected to return to Massachusetts later this month.
