California visitor, 56, dies after being picked up at Koloa Landing

A 56-year-old visitor from California died Friday after being pulled from the waters of Hanakaape Bay, also known as Koloa Landing in Koloa, Kauai police said.

Police said first responders were dispatched to the bay at approximately 9:45 a.m. Friday to attempt to save an unconscious swimmer. “Bystanders performed CPR until medics arrived and took over advanced resuscitation efforts. The victim was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead later Friday evening,” KPD said.

The woman’s name has not been released.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death, but no foul play is suspected, police said.
