DMPD investigates eleventh traffic fatality Saturday evening

DES MOINES, IOWA — Saturday evening, the Des Moines Police Department Traffic Division responded to the city’s 11th fatal traffic crash in 2024.

The call came in at 8:03 p.m. when Des Moines Police Department officers and Des Moines Fire Department personnel responded to a crash with injuries at the intersection of 2nd and Holcomb Avenues.

Upon arrival, responders found multiple injured victims and one deceased person, identified as an adult female.

DMFD medics transported two adults and two minors to local hospitals with serious injuries. The 2nd Avenue Bridge was closed for a time as the investigation began. Police say 2nd Avenue, both northbound and southbound lanes, are temporarily closed from Hull to Franklin Avenue. The closure is expected to last three hours.

The Des Moines Police Department’s Traffic Division is still investigating the accident and will release more information as it becomes available.
