Fiesta Topeka celebrates its final day in style

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The 91st Fiesta Topeka has come to an end after five days of celebration at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

“We thank Topeka from the bottom of our hearts for the support they have given us for the 91st year,” said Marisol Marcelo, Fiesta Topeka’s publicity director. “It’s about our culture, our food, our traditions, and this year, like every other year, we were able to show that to the public, and the public was able to come and experience it all.”

This year many Topekans gathered to enjoy Fiesta Topeka, and on this final night of the celebration even more came.

“The turnout was incredible. It reminds me of when we had our party in the ’70s and ’80s,” said Deborah Ortega, chair of the Fiesta Topeka Committee. “Just the amount of people, the crowds. Families coming together, reuniting at a party, visiting old friends. It was just a lot of fun.”

The nice thing about this event is that it has become cooler and therefore more attractive.

“For us it was an answered prayer because more people came, the weather was bearable and they had the chance to enjoy the food,” Ortega said.

The food was just one aspect of the event. There was a car show, an art show, a stage with dancing and much more.

“Our fair is filled with local vendors who have come from Topeka, Junction City, Manhattan and all over Kansas to celebrate Fiesta Topeka and sell their wares,” said Marcelo.

This last day of the festival proves how successful the fundraising has been.

“And again, all proceeds support Holy Family Catholic School, support the teachers, the students so they can support the school. I hope everyone had a fun and safe time and we can’t wait to see them next year.”

Fiesta Topeka really ends with a final mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. If you want to join us, there is an English mass on Sunday at 9:00.
